Joel is the son of Wilhelm Casiple Jaranilla and Angelita Amador. His family and close friends call him "Jo", but at the office he is called "JJ".

His brothers and sisters are Fernando A. Jaranilla, Michelle A. Jaranilla, Cecille A. Jaranilla, Steven A. Jaranilla

He was born at Quezon City, Metro Manila. Since they did not come from a well off family, his childhood years were spent creating home-made toys and inventions. Most of the time he unintentionally damages clocks and other objects because he tries to dismantle them to understand how they work. He also loves to irritate playmates and small animals.

He transferred to Taguig City to be near the office he was working for because travel time is costing him three hours one way. He also love riding his bike to work.

If you want to go out of town, he recommends climbing Pulag, touring Zambales, or anywhere there is sand and sea.

He is now currently a Freelancer and Work at Home individual.

His hobbies include biking, writing, and cooking.

His top three favorite foods are longsilog, modified instant noodles, and burgers.

His top three favorite restaurants if he has money is Outback, Jollibee or McDo, and anywhere with Beer.

His top three favorite items are his shoes, his clothes, and his bike.

For him his top three reliable brands are Trek, Bosch, and Google

He said: "I have been independent all my life, it is very seldom I asked for help. But there are always people who suddenly show up and give a helping hand, especially when I need it the most. Been in a lot of bad situations all my life, but these helped me learn a lot about life and other people."
