Jaranilla-Raja Foundation Donates to Gunjur Children

Children in the Kombo South District Village of Gunjur were on Sunday beneficiaries of gifts including food items and T-shirts from Jaranilla-Raja Foundation, a charitable organisation that aims to help young less-privileged Gambians.

Welcoming the foundation members, Omar Giki Darboe, the Alkalo of Gunjur, thanked them for reaching out to the people of Gunjur, saying helping people who are in need is essential.

He expressed appreciation to the benefactors for their efforts, while encouraging them to keep up their philanthropic gestures. The donated items, he affirmed, would help the beneficiaries.

Reca Jane M. Jaranilla, the Executive Director of the foundation, briefed the gathering about what informed their decisions to help children. According to her, Raja Foundation was founded because they wanted to help those who are in need, especially those in education.

She added: "We are sponsoring 15, and 14 of them are in Basic and Secondary Schools and 1 in college. In this foundation, we believe that we may not be able to change the world, but we hope to change one kid's world."

Jaranilla - Raja Foundation, she revealed, is not only focused on Gambia but also trying to reach out to some children in Philippines and Pakistan. She maintained that one of their important activities starting this year is running a Community Gift Giving programme, wherein every month they would choose one village to distribute some food supplies.

Alieu Fatty, the Project Coordinator of the Jaranilla-Raja Foundation, pointed out that the gifts donated would help the children in their education, which, he said, is the single most important issue that can create better opportunities for them.

Encouraging the children to take their education seriously, Fatty disclosed that plans are afoot to reach many parts of The Gambia to help the needy.

Chaired by the founder of the Balance Crew and presenter of the Balance Programme on GRTS, Baba Ceesay, the event witnessed the foundation team members entreated with serenading Mandinka songs laden with expressions of appreciations.

The event concluded with photo ops, including the children, their parents and foundation members.
